Welcome to Literacy NENY.

     The statistics are alarming. One in every eight adults in our tri-county area reads at or below the 5th grade level. Some of them can't read at all. Families suffer, too. Parents with low literacy skills have trouble reading to their children—and many don't even try. Sadly, the literacy levels of children are strongly linked to the educational levels of their parents. Therefore, helping parents; helps their children.

     For many, simple everyday tasks present real problems. Reading product labels, following street signs, or filling out job applications can be difficult and frustrating. Learning to become a part of a new community, finding work, or talking with your child's teacher can be difficult for anyone, especially when you do not know the language.

     With community support, Literacy NENY provides help for adults who wish to improve their  reading, writing, math, GED, and English speaking skills. We offer help by providing one-on-one tutoring and small class instruction. In doing so, we help individuals expand their world one page at a time.
