Welcome to Literacy NENY.

     We are a non profit organization dedicated to providing confidential instruction by trained volunteers, to individuals who wish to improve their reading, writing and English fluency skills.

Our educational services include: basic literacy instruction in reading, writing and math; preparation for the GED; ESOL (English as a Second Language) tutoring and conversation groups; tutoring for the Citizenship exam and peer mentoring in public schools.

Our service area covers more than 2,500 square miles in three adjoining counties. Our volunteers teach our learners at more than 30 locations - predominately at local libraries.

All of our tutors “graduate” from a comprehensive training program. Throughout the year, we
offer workshops and seminars for both tutors and learners.

We are always seeking new tutors, volunteers and donations. Our future depends on strong community involvement and support.

Each day we endeavor to improve individual lives one page at a time. The ability to read and write, to understand and to be understood, are the roots of personal and economic freedom.
